Is it possible to be fun and serious at the same time?  How about simple and thought-provoking?  Or complete and continuous?  This book covers both sides of all of these seeming contradictions in a way that can only be done by a picture book based on God’s Word! 

After all, as a picture book, this book is fun for readers of every age.  My children, in particular, flip through in eager anticipation, finding bold illustrations that mark the beginning of each chapter.  But these images on the lefthand page are accompanied by names of the Lord God Almighty on the right.  Both are to be marveled at.  And yet, the name—and the Scriptural text prompting the name—carries a weightiness fitting only for God.  It is enough to challenge any parent’s personal theology!   

Then, sections of text explaining each name (always a page and a half in length) are written with simplicity.  The author dots the page with curious questions (e.g., “can you create even one thing from nothing?)and emphatic answers (e.g., “of course not!”).  They are the well-placed words of a wise neighbor, spoken not over a fence or from their lawn, but over tea when visiting the family on a weekend evening.   

The “REFLECT” questions reliably found at the end of each chapter are a handful of things left to readers to ponder upon.  They range from those with specific answers given in the preceding text, to those with varying responses that families can discuss in age-appropriate ways. 

But the Bible references and key verses at the end are not the forgone conclusions that they appear to be.  The afterword rightfully points the readers to the fact that these are just the beginning to knowing God—given how He is “more glorious and awesome than you can possibly imagine.”  With the sample of answers and songs at the back of the book, one is inspired to further exploration as a purposeful family growing in love with their holy and glorious God.
